CHECK OUT OUR NEW PAR COURSE!!!

From the Wellness Corner…

We hope that many of you have had the chance to use Symmes’ beautiful new Par Course, located around the Symmes Walking Track. There are six stations, that when used with the Walking Track, can be a complete workout or a fun family outing!

Step Up Station: Start your workout at the step up station to get your heart pumping. Choose a step of comfortable height and place foot on top of step. Step up with other foot 5-10 times, using pole for balance. Return to starting position and repeat with alternate leg, 5-10 times.

Chin Up Station: With palms facing out or in, grasp the bar and pull up to face height. Hold your chin up and slowly return to resting position. Repeat 3-5 times and hold each chin up for a count of two.

Horizontal Ladder: Pull up onto ladder and cross horizontal ladder. If you are able, turn around at the end of the ladder and return back to the starting position.

Track: Run or walk two laps around the track.

Push Up Station: Position hands on push up bar and raise and lower body. Repeat 5-10 times. Hold each push up for a count of two for additional challenge.

Sit Up/Body Curl Bench: Secure feet under the bar with knees bent. Lie back and curl up for 3-5 sit ups. If you are able, hold in the sit up position for a count of five.

Balance Beam Station: Keeping your balance, cross the length of the beam, pivot and return.

Track: Run or walk two laps around the track.

Spirit Wear Information

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL SYMMES FAMILIES!
We are pleased to present the new
Symmes Elementary 2015-2016 Spirit Wear Collection!

We have many new apparel selections available for the entire family. By purchasing your spirit wear items, the PTO will get 10% back on every order which goes towards gifting for our beloved SYMMES at the end of the year.

This year, we will have samples of sizing and order forms at Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 2nd, 6:00pm-7:30pm in the gym where our PTO Fair will be. Please bring your method of payment at that time (check or credit card-no cash please). Once orders are submitted, we will deliver your items to your child in backpack mail once they are ready.  
We will also have the samples available at our first 2015-2016 PTO meeting on September, 10th 9:30am (FREE BABYSITTING!!) Come join us and meet the 2015-2016 PTO Board Members.

CURRICULUM PREVIEW


Next Wednesday, Sept. 2 is our Curriculum Preview
night at Symmes.

 

We have 2 designated times for you to come to hear the important information about our school's curriculum and the upcoming school year. The first session will begin at 6:00 and last until 6:45.  The second session will begin at 6:45 and end at 7:30.  Two sessions are offered in an effort to accommodate families with  more than one child at Symmes.  Please keep in mind this event is for adults only.

 We expect all parents will plan to attend!

This weather has been perfect for our wonderful outdoor learning areas.

Substitute Nurses:
The Sycamore Community School District is currently looking for registered nurses who would like to be employed as substitute nurses. Applicants must have current nursing experience, preferably ​with children,​ special needs​,​​ diabetes and an active nursing license.

Healthy Snacks

The following list is based on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggested snack list:
  • fresh or dried fruit, grapes, bananas, apple slices, strawberries, raisins
  • fresh vegetables; carrot sticks, pepper slices, cucumber slices, snap peas
  • high-protein, low sugar dairy items like cheese sticks or greek yogurt
  • whole grain foods with fiber like plain wheat thins, plain cheerios, pretzels, goldfish or popcorn

Please consider refraining from sending in the following items for daily or group snacks: doughnuts, candy, cakes, cookies, pastries, rice krispie treats, pudding or frozen desserts
